The ‘About’ Bit

Copper Harris and the badger-faced sheepYou’ve clicked on this page to learn more about me and my little corner of WordPress.  Right?  Okay, let’s go back a few years…

Having given up hope of ever becoming an artist and illustrator after completing my art foundation course (pre-degree level) as a teen, I closed my sketchbook and tidied away my pencils for good. However, the creative pull was too strong, and after a while I set off looking for my lost energy and fearlessness.

Roll forward a few more years, a bit of art education, and here I am.

Filbert & Smudge is the conversation I would have with a close friend so they understand the whirlpool in my mind as I continue my journey.

Filbert, a type of paintbrush, refers to the familiar things I encounter en route.

Smudge refers to me being playful, embracing my ‘mistakes’ and not being afraid to find my own way!

(Filbert and Smudge also refers to the wet and dry media I use as an artist and illustrator, but that doesn’t sound as intriguing).

If you haven’t done so already, learn about my blogging journey by reading my first post

P.S. In case you were wondering, Copper Harris is a nickname, and I’m rather fond of it.

P.P.S. My first name is actually Nicola.
